Held December 4,2008 at UNR campus, Jot Travis Student Union from 10AM to 3PM.
Station personnel attending: Vivian Matta, Promotions Director and
Conor Flanagan, On Air Personality
All station personnel available to give information to attendees about the station, work
and intern program. We provided printed materials also.
(b) Initiative:Univeristy of Nevada, Reno Sprin Job Fair
Held April 9, 2009 at UNR campus, Jot Travis Student Union from 10AM to 3PM.
Station personnel attending: Scott DelOstia, Promotions Director and
Bob Grimm, Local Sales Manager and Raina Malone, General Manager.
All station personnel available to give information to attendees about the station, work
and intern program. There was at least one person available who was authorized to interview and hire staff.
We provided printed materials also.

EEO Internship Policy and Process



Wilks Broadcast Group LLC – Reno

Wilks Broadcast Group has consistently run a stable internship program where a number of hires have been made. The following is an outline of the procedure describing how Wilks Broadcast Group goes about finding interns, what type of internships are available, and how individuals are brought out of internships.

RECRUITMENT: Wilks recruits interns in four ways:
  1. Local College Job Fairs. We participate in two college Job Fairs at The University Of Nevada-Reno – one each in the Fall and Spring.
  2. Advertising. Reno Tahoe Radio posts calls for internships for individuals seeking credit or who are interested in a career in broadcasting through on-air recorded promotions and web site postings under the “Jobs” section of each Reno Tahoe Radio station. Intern Calls are also press released to local news publications and job websites. These drives occur for five weeks at a time.
  3. Educational Referrals: We place internships for high school seniors that are referred to us by area high school career counselors. These positions are normally for credit only, but sometimes do result in a new hire.
  4. Personal Referrals: We also accept interns that are referred by existing employees.

PROGRAM: Wilks Broadcast Group requires that all qualified interns commit at least six hours per week spent at the Radio Station or its events, for a period of at least three months. Throughout the internship, interns are instructed in the following areas, based on their interest, skill and aptitude.
  1. Promotions: Executing promotions, writing liner copy, creating and distributing prize sheets and winner lists.
  2. Engineering: Simple broadcast engineering covering equipment operation, transmitter commands and functions, remote control functions, studio devices, EAS operations, remote broadcasting, basic sound design and engineering, live sound, and emergency procedures.
  3. Production: Exposure to on-air work, board-op, studio control, audio production that includes imaging, commercials and sound editing platforms.
  4. Programming: Exposure to applications used for programming the station, including RCS. Interns can also learn about the positions of Music Director and Program Director.

INTERSHIP PLACEMENTS: Wilks Broadcast Group draws on our Intern Program to fill available positions within our radio group, as appropriate. Most of the KRZQ programming staff started as interns, so we naturally believe in the validity of this practice. Positions are always based on availability and almost always, interns who get hired are chosen mainly on seniority within the internship program. Individuals who intern for credit are given a letter of completion and performance at the end of their internship, between three and five months. We work with the educational institution to ensure all academic requirements are met throughout the process.

Interns who are hired are almost always hired above minimum wage.

Wilks Broadcast Group does not engage interns in work that should be completed by paid staff. Interns are never designated to operate the station for any amount of time unless they are hired first.
